Hope in the Valley of Pain. You will rise again.
In life, we will encounter valleys. Those low points in our lives that look hopeless. It’s in these low points that we experience pain, loss, hardship, and betrayal. And we experience sickness, physical pain, emotional pain, disease, and death or maybe even a lot of weight gain.
The Valleys of Life
In the valleys of life, we lose loved ones, homes, friends, income, jobs and even our moms. We experience diagnoses, distress, divorce, addiction, anxiety, separation, and even prodigal sons and daughters. It’s in the valley that we experience the pain of being lied on, laughed at, misunderstood and misjudged. The valley is where we get talked about, cheated on, rejected by so-called “friends” or maybe even double-crossed. Valleys are often FULL of Disappointments. Demotions. Or it’s like all those times you’ve been passed up for that promotion.
Hopefull in the Face of Pain and Adversity
But what I have learned in the valleys of life is this. What I choose to see and believe in the valley becomes my reality. I can choose to look at the facts of my life experiences and see death or I can see through the eyes of faith and see an opportunity for resurrection and rebirth.
When you look at your valley, what do you see and what do you believe? Despite the facts of your valley—do you believe you will live again? Do you believe you can thrive and flourish again? Even if you’d say to God, “Lord, you alone know the answer to that”, I want to encourage you to do what the Lord commanded Ezekiel to do. PROPHESY to your valley of dry bones!!
The Power of Prophesy
When you prophesy, what you’re really doing is BOLDLY declaring the promises and power of God over your painful facts, feelings and greatest discouragements. When we can stand in the midst of our valleys with God-confidence and God-assurance, convinced that NOTHING is too difficult or impossible for God–that’s when miracles happen.
The enemy of your soul would love to leave you in your valley overwhelmed by feelings of fear, hopelessness, despair, and abandonment. And he’d love for you to keep your eyes fixed on the facts and feelings of your valley. But when you learn to steep your heart in God’s reality, the impossible becomes possible and what’s dead comes alive again.
You will rise again
God wants you to keep your eyes fixed on who He is—your healer, helper, protector, provider, restorer, redeemer, promoter and vindicator. When you prophesy to your pain, you’re declaring the goodness and power of God to transform your pain to something good, useful and purposeful. Refuse to believe as the Israelites did in Ezk. 37:11 that “all hope is gone” because the Spirit of the Lord says to you “I will cause you to rise again.”
Friend, no matter what valley you find yourself in today, prophesy to those low, painful places.
- Declare to your situations and relationships “with God, all things are possible (Mt. 19:26)
- Declare “my latter days will be greater than my former” (Haggai 2:8-10)
- Declare “surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me ALL the days of my life” (Ps. 23:6)
Because “we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
