Family heart to heart
The other day my 20 year old daughter and I were talking about her personal goals and ambitions. She expressed how she needed to earn a particular type of income for the life she wanted to live. This girl dreams BIG no doubt! But her big dream requires BIG POCKETS OKUUURRR💁🏽♀️
But what she didn’t realize I that moment was how her thoughts were the biggest factor in whether she achieved her dreams. It is our thoughts that lead our feet. When you change your thoughts, you can change our life.
I asked my daughter what she believed was getting in the way of her dreams and she began to list off all of her constraints. Not having transportation, not having enough money, not having the right network etc. You get the point. But when I asked her what she did have, she said “you asked me what was getting in my way, not what I had”. It’s interesting to me how she perceived my question as seeking to know what she DIDN’T have rather than what she did have.
Can you relate? I know I have struggled to view my life in light of what I DO have (my gifts, talents, creativity etc). In so many seasons I remain fixed on what were perceived to be my biggest constraints. My greatest giants weren’t the things around me. It was actually the things going on inside of ME! What a remarkable discovery to realize my greatest giant were inside of me–my thoughts!
So often we think of constraints as other people or places or resources. But more often than not, I’d be willing to bet our biggest constraint is our beliefs~our constraint-based thinking or mindset.
It really is all about your perspective or your thoughts. What you think is all you can see. Your perspective truly shapes your perceived reality. I asked my daughter to think about my question again and be real honest about what was TRULY getting in her way of taking action on her dream. And I was floored by what she said. She said “ME.”
Isn’t it true that you are your own worst enemy? You stop yourself from living forward. You stop yourself from designing and achieving your dreams. I asked my daughter what she believed were the biggest personal giants she needed to slay in her life and she began to rattle them off. If you’re not honest about your giants—if you’re not aware of the things that are actually holding you back from creating the life you want, you will live life frustrated instead of forward.
What thoughts do you need to slay?
Do you have thought giants that need to be slayed? What thoughts are keeping you stuck in fear or doubt and keeping you from believing the impossible? If you look hard enough, I bet you’ll see the giants in your heart. Because it’s from our hearts (our mind, our thoughts, our will and emotions) that all of our issues (or giants) flow (Prov. 4:23).
If we can learn to take on the mind of Christ, a mind that is faith-based rather than: fear based, limitation based, constraint based or poverty based—then we will truly be unstoppable!!
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all you could ever ask, think or imagine. Ask for God’s helping hand to guide you as you plan and launch YOUR dream. Believe it and go achieve it! Here’s to living your best life Faith-Focused Forward!
