The title of this blog post “Does cancer run in your family”—was the HEADLINER of a brochure my OBGYN handed me this week at my well-woman check-up. Because my mother (a first-degree relative as she put it) died of ovarian cancer, having this type of family history is a red flag or risk factor for hereditary cancer.
Our self-talk or internal dialogue is powerful. Did you know your self-talk can actually lead to your healing? Our self-talk impacts our self-esteem, sense of worth, self-confidence and self-image. It also impacts the way we act and make decisions. I guess what I’m trying to say is that our self-talk affects every area of our lives. For the good or bad.
For every ending in our lives, there is a new beginning. Rather than focus on the events and experiences of the past, I choose to focus on all the good and great things God has planned for my future.
🙋🏽♀️I decided to stop chasing purpose…..
The Voice of Fear
11 years ago on May 1st, I lost my mother to ovarian cancer. She had battled the disease for 3 years and died a few weeks after her 49th birthday. I remember my mother saying during her last few weeks of life that she had to get better because she still had a purpose to fulfill on this earth. When I heard these words, I remember saying in my heart:
“I don’t want to arrive at the end of my life believing I have yet to fulfill my God-given purpose. I want to be able to say with confidence that I have fulfilled it.”
Toxic Fishbowls
Fish living in a goldfish bowl are not living their best life. Because most fish bowls lack a filtration system to keep their environment clean and free of toxins, very few goldfish survive for more than a few weeks. A bowl simply can’t provide a suitable living environment for any fish to live a healthy and long life. Likewise, an unfiltered or poorly filtered mind does not lead to living life more abundantly. When our thoughts go unchecked and unfiltered, we develop toxic mindsets that cause us to lead unhealthy, unproductive, and unhappy lives. But a new way of thinking will always precede a new way of living.
